Still life - Natural and made objects
I decided to use items in my weekly veg box. I can usually find some interesting shapes and textures in there. I tried to select items that brought something different to the composition to make it more interesting. I have chosen carrots with leaves, red pepper, fennel, tomatoes on the vine and a couple of mushrooms.
For my assignments I have chosen to do four rough sketches of my chosen items in different arrangements to identify the best use of the space and most interesting to the eye. Then I have completed two A3 of the final arrangement in colour pencil for each drawing, and finally an A2 drawing using charcoal and graphite pencil for each drawing.
For my made-objects drawing I have chosen a wicker basket, some pebbles, a small candle, a large candle, a book and a shell. I added the pebbles and shell at the last minuet before I did my final A3 colour.
Now I have finished my project and in reflection I found the made-objects the hardest to draw. I felt that it was difficult to get the wicker basket right and to make it look realistic, I think perhaps I have over complicated the picture by adding the extra objects. Also failing to have one of the objects as the main focal point to link the picture together. If I could start this project again I would definitely have chose a different arrangement.
Overall I fund the natural objects of vegetables easier to draw and arrange in a way that they complimented each other. I also liked the effect of the charcoal which helped to make the drawing stand out from the page and look less flat.
